Transfer process
As a Federal Firearms Licensee, Smoke Wagon Firearms processes every regulated firearm and every National Firearms Act item in accordance with federal, New York State and local law. Firearms we ship or receive through UPS, FedEx or USPS arrive alongside our regular inventory and are logged into our system as they come in.
Please allow 2–3 business days after the carrier shows it delivered for us to receive your transfer into our system and finish the required processing. Give us an accurate email address and cell phone number so you get every update; we’ll let you know as soon as your firearm is officially in.
Items required to finalize your transfer
- Valid government-issued photo ID with your date of birth
- Proof of current address, if your ID does not show it
- Any New York permit your firearm requires (for example, your pistol permit for a handgun)
The next steps
- ATF Form 4473 and background check
- Proof of purchase
- Payment of transfer fees (where applicable)
Once your transfer arrives and you’ve been notified, please pick it up within 30 days. If that won’t work, let us know your timeline at jay@smokewagonfirearms.com and we’ll work with you. Smoke Wagon Firearms is an appointment-based dealer, so please contact us to set a pickup time.

Transfer discounts
- Buy a box of ammo, a cleaning kit or a holster and get $10 off the transfer fee.
- Buy a class and get $20 off the transfer fee.
- Buy an additional firearm from us and we’ll waive the transfer fee.
Discounts apply only at checkout on the day you pick up your transfer. Discounts do not stack.
